is located close to the coast in the Alentejo with wide-stretching cork-oak forests, century-old olive groves and pastures for beef cattle and the famous black pigs (Porco Alentejano).
The area is situaded right between the capital Lisbon and the Algarve, with many sights and great historical value. The Herdade lies about 5km northwest of Cercal do Alentejo at the main road from Cercal to Sines, close to the district of Porto Covo. A trip to the coast and the Ilha do Pessegueiro only takes about 10-15 minutes by car, Ourique only takes half an hour.
By plane:
The Portuguese main land has got three international airports: Lisbon, Porto and Faro. To get to the Herdade da Casa Velha, the preferred airports would be Faro or Lisbon. The flight takes about 3 hours and the prices may vary according to season and provider. Charter flights to Faro are much cheaper than scheduled flights. It takes about 1.5 hours to get here from each of the airports.
By car:
For a journey by car we advise you to take your time. You will pass France, Spain and reach Portugal. This is a distance you should not try to take without overnight stays (it will take you about 3 days).
